Children’s House
Ages 4-6
At this age children are developing independence, self-discipline and social skills. They are eager to explore their environment, refine motor skills and engage in purposeful work. During this stage, children absorb information from their surroundings effortlessly, learn through hands-on activities, and develop a foundation for lifelong learning.
Dutch and English, every day
Each Guide speaks their designated language consistently. Children encounter Dutch and English through conversation, stories, Montessori activities and daily routines.

A day in Children’s House

Step into our Children’s House (ages 4–6) and you’ll find a warm, inviting prepared environment where children are encouraged to explore independently, guided by their natural curiosity.
Each morning, children are welcomed by the Montessori guide and settle quickly into a long, uninterrupted work cycle. During this time, children choose purposeful, hands-on work from across the curriculum, building early foundations in reading and writing, number sense, and an understanding of the world. The guide observes closely and offers individual presentations at the right moment, so each child can progress at their own pace - true to Montessori’s freedom within clear boundaries.
After the work cycle, the children restore the environment together by tidying and caring for materials. Before lunch, they come together for a short community gathering. This is a calm transition where we practice Grace and Courtesy (Montessori social skills), share greetings and simple classroom notes, and help the group reset for the next part of the day—while keeping the morning’s deep concentration protected.
Lunch is shared together and supported by children through age-appropriate responsibilities (such as setting the table, serving, and cleaning up), building independence and care for the community. Healthy snacks are also available during the day.
In the afternoon, children spend generous time outdoors. Our playground focuses on open-ended outdoor play that supports creativity, collaboration, and gross-motor development—from building and climbing to observing insects, inventing games, and exploring nature. Even on rainy days we go outside whenever possible—because in our view, there’s no bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.

Pouring, preparing food and caring for materials develop coordination, concentration and independence.

Conversation, stories, sound games and Montessori materials support vocabulary, writing and reading.
Mathematics
Hands-on materials make quantity, number and the decimal system tangible before children move towards abstraction.
Sensorial and cultural learning
Children explore shape, size, colour and texture, alongside geography, nature, science, art, music and movement.
Guides introduce new work as each child is ready, with freedom to practise within clear boundaries.

A familiar welcome
Before your child starts, an introduction with the Guides helps make the first day feel more familiar. Tell us about your child’s interests, routines and language background so we can discuss their needs together.
Understanding your child’s progress
Through Transparent Classroom, parents can follow lessons, updates and photographs. Conversations with the Guides help connect what your child is learning at school with what you notice at home.
Come and meet us
Visits begin at Boschdijk 623, where you can see our future school building. We then take you to the current (temporary) classroom at Boschdijk 769.
