Public speaking: the confidence to share ideas
At Seeker, learning to speak in front of others begins with small, familiar experiences. During circle time, our youngest children are invited to tell a story, share a discovery or talk about their weekend. They practise expressing themselves clearly, listening to others and taking turns, building confidence within a familiar group.
In Elementary, children will explore ideas through Socratic discussions: guided conversations where they ask questions, explain their thinking and consider different perspectives. Topics might range from cooking and nature to questions such as “What makes a rule fair?”
Children will also research topics that spark their curiosity, individually or in small groups, and present their discoveries to others. With guidance, they will learn to organise information, explain ideas in their own words and respond to questions.
This progression respects each child’s readiness while offering growing challenges. Our aim is to help children become thoughtful, confident communicators who can share their knowledge, express an opinion and listen with respect—skills they can carry into further education, work and everyday life.
